In recent years the Medical Council has struck off or sanctioned a number of doctors for a various reasons.

Michael Neary: Obstetrician at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, was struck off the Medical Council register in 2003 after a series of unwarranted hysterectomies.

This was a rare occasion when the outcome of his Fitness to Practise Inquiry was published.
