HOUSEHOLD bin collections and street cleaning are set to come to a halt in Waterford city from Monday because of an imminent strike by 143 council workers.

City residents also face the prospect of sewerage problems if the strike goes ahead, while delays in repairing any water stoppages are also likely, with most services performed by council staff due to be withdrawn.

SIPTU yesterday served notice of all-out strike action to Waterford City Council after no resolution was found to a number of concerns that the union says have not been dealt with. These include payment for rostered overtime, a drainage allowance for sewerage system workers and transfer issues.
