CONSUMERS are wasting money by taking out insurance cover they do not need or will find it hard to make a claim on, said watchdogs last night.

The Consumers’ Association of Ireland singled out policies like mobile phone insurance and extended warranties on household appliances as poor value.

“It’s quite extraordinary the amount that people pay out in insurance,” said association chief executive Dermott Jewell.
