Father and son buried side by side

A FATHER and son will be buried side by side in Limerick today after they passed away suddenly at the weekend.

Father and son buried side by side

Leonard McInerney, 36, was found dead in bed when a member of his family went to call him last Friday morning at his home in Singland Park, Garryowen.

The father-of-four had not been ill and local curate, Fr Terry Loughran said his death came as a great shock to the family.

Fr Loughran said: “He died in his sleep.”

Leonard’s father, Jackie who had been cared for at St Camillus’s Hospital, left to stay at his old home at Norwood Park to attend the funeral of his son. He died in his sleep on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

The family decided that the removal and funeral Mass for father and son should take place together.

The removal from Cross’s funeral home last night to St Brigid’s Church was attended by hundreds who came to sympathise with the family.

Fr Loughran said: “I think, in one way, it may help the family to be able to mourn both Leonard and Jackie together. It would be very tough for them to have to revisit the funeral home and graveyard again for a separate funeral next week. They are surrounded by friends and family who will help them through this tough time.”

The double burial will take place at Mount St Oliver cemetery after 11am requiem Mass at St Brigid’s.
