Watchdog: Inspect US planes at Shannon

THE State’s human rights watchdog has said the Government must inspect US military planes flying through Shannon to ensure they are not carrying out extraordinary renditions.

The Irish Human Rights Commission said an inspection and monitoring regime had to be established “as a matter of urgency”.

“Aircraft from any state in relation to which suspicion exists should be subject to the inspection regime,” it added.
