Thousands attend removal of former FF TD

THOUSANDS of people turned out to pay their respects to former MEP Gene Fitzgerald at his removal which took place yesterday evening.

The coffin bearing the body of Mr Fitzgerald, who served as a minister in several departments in the 1970s and 1980s, was removed from O’Connor’s funeral home in Wilton to the Church of the Real Presence, Curraheen.

Garda motorcycle outriders escorted the hearse along its journey and hundreds of people lined the route.
