The use of Antisocial Behaviour Orders (Asbos) as sanctions against adults began on January 1 despite much criticism over the government measure.

The introduction of Asbos, commonly used by British police, was welcomed by victims of crime but also sparked fears that children, as young as 12, could be criminalised.
