Men charged with murder
Neither of the accused men replied to the murder charge after they were formally arrested, charged and cautioned.
The two accused are Jason Quinlan, aged 29, who is originally from Ringmahon Close, Mahon, but with an address at Loughmahon Drive, Mahon, Cork, and John Brett, aged 24, of 26A Leitrim Street, Cork.
Both men were accused of murdering Brian McKee, aged 24, who was stabbed at Ballinure Avenue, Mahon, Cork, on August 25 and died as a result of his injuries later that day.
Detective Garda Tony Flynn gave evidence of formally arresting Quinlan yesterday and charging him with murder.
Inspector Michael Comyns applied for the case to be adjourned untilDecember 19 for the purpose of preparation and service of a book of evidence.
Defence solicitor Eddie Burke did not object to that adjournment. Insp Comyn told Judge UinsĂn MacGruairc that the State was withdrawing the earlier charge of assault causing harm that was previously brought against Quinlan.
Sergeant Malachy White charged Brett with murder and applied to have his case adjourned until tomorrow. The previous assault charge brought against Brett is back before Cork District Court tomorrow.
Defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher did not object to Mr Brett’s case being put back until tomorrow.
