Gardaí appeal for information on stab victim

GARDAÍ last night released a photograph of the latest murder victim in Dublin in a bid to gain information about the attack.

Paul Keegan, aged 42, from Westpark Apartments in Chapelizod, west Dublin, died after being violently stabbed to death in Walkinstown, south-west Dublin.

He was repeatedly stabbed when he got into a row with other men on a laneway off Beechfield Road on Monday night.

It was speculated initially that Mr Keegan might have been the victim of a violent road rage incident, but gardaí soon came to the view that it was linked to criminal activity, possibly drugs.

A passenger in his jeep, a maroon Nissan Pathfinder, managed to flee the scene and raised the alarm. He later told gardaí that an argument had erupted between Mr Keegan and the driver of a Volkswagen Golf, which was blocking the laneway.

Officers suspect Mr Keegan drove to a pre-arranged meeting at the laneway. A bloodstained firearm was located a short distance from the scene and is being examined.

Gardaí are hoping that they might stir some information from the public by releasing Mr Keegan’s photograph.

Meanwhile, gardaí yesterday arrested a fifth man in relation to the murder of Seán McMahon on November 14. The 34-year-old was shot dead at his home in Donamore Avenue, in Tallaght.

Four other people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder. Three were released yesterday, while the fourth remained in custody.
