‘Six-month closures’ for pubs and clubs if drugs found

NIGHTCLUBS and pubs should face closures of up to six months if drug dealing or drug-taking is discovered on the premises, the Taoiseach said yesterday.

Current legislation that enables gardaí to search houses, pubs and nightclubs where they suspect drugs are present should be more forcefully used, Mr Ahern during Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil.

“If large pubs or nightclubs do not work towards improvement in this area they should be put out of business for six months. They would not like that,” he said.
