Eco boost for east Cork as woodchip facility to open

Dairy farmers and argi-service providers, Eddie and Linda O’Keeffe, are the latest farm family to team up with NPS to promote a cleaner, greener environment through the use of wood fuel.

From their depot at Ballynoe, the couple will distribute woodchip throughout Cork city, East Cork and beyond.

Linda O’Keeffe said they knew it was the right thing to do when NPS approached them about this project.

“We hope our involvement with NPS will spur more people to think green and switch to woodchip,” she said.

Eddie O’Keeffe said thinnings, pulpwood and slab wood will be brought to the Ballynoe depot, which is within easy access of the city. “It will be stored here before chipping and we will deliver it where and when customers want it,” he said. The O’Keeffe’s said they hope their depot will be operational after Christmas.

NPS managing director James Kennedy said the Ballynoe depot will be its first in Cork and brings to 11 the number of its hubs nationwide.
