€400k heroin haul in Kildare

GARDAÍ seized heroin believed to be worth €400,000 in Co Kildare over the weekend — the second drug haul in the county in three days.

The haul was part of an operation by the Garda National Drugs Unit into the supply of drugs in the west Dublin area.

During their investigations on Friday night, they raided an apartment in Clane, Co Kildare, where they found 2kg of heroin, a small amount of cash and drug paraphernalia.

“As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in west Dublin, gardaí from the National Drugs Unit searched an apartment in Abbeylands, Clane, Co Kildare,” said a Garda spokesman. “During the course of the search 2kg of heroin was seized. This substance, depending on analysis, has a potential street value of €400,000. A small amount of cocaine (€5,000) and various drug paraphernalia was also seized.”

Two men, aged 29 and 33, were arrested. The two men have addresses in Clondalkin, west Dublin. They were taken to Clondalkin Garda Station and held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
