EVERY week 40,000 drivers get behind the wheel after drinking too much alcohol despite growing support for a zero-tolerance policing policy.

That’s according to research to be presented at the Psychological Society of Ireland annual conference in Killarney today.

It found there is widespread backing for lowering the legal alcohol limit for drivers and that most people consider drink driving more shameful than adultery, shop-lifting and tax evasion.
