Customs seize 250,000 cigarettes from Latvian smugglers

LATVIAN crime bosses have lost up to €35,000 in net profit following a cigarette haul by customs officers at Dublin Airport.

A special operation set up by officers at the airport resulted in the seizure of 250,000 cigarettes from couriers packed into a flight from Riga, capital of Latvia, on Tuesday.

“There were up to 30 people, couriers, involved,” said Shay Doyle, customs manager at Dublin Airport and responsible for Operation Swift.
