Cheaper dining out is not just a Fable

A LIMERICK restaurant has moved to beat the high cost of dining out.

Cheaper dining out is not just a Fable

Fables restaurant in Dooradoyle is not just allowing diners bring in their own wine, but they are not charging any corkage for opening the bottles and providing the wine glasses.

Manager Bryan Greene said: “I picked up the idea when I was over in New Jersey recently. I asked for a wine list at a restaurant. The waiter said they did not have any, but that I could cross the road to a local off-licence and buy my own wine and bring it back. To make it better there was no corkage charge which can be e5 or e6 in this country.”

He said diners are also able to dine with their own favourite wine and not be confined to what is on offer on the house list.

Mr Greene said: “There has been a huge swing to wine drinking in Ireland with many people liking to open a bottle by the fireside. Our view is that the customer can select his or her own wine and leave us to do what we do best: the food. It also improves the value a person gets on a night out. For years we have been hearing Eddie Hobbs talk about the inflated prices of wines in restaurants, but that can’t be said about us and there has been a very positive response with a very noticeable increase in our evening business.”
