Ahern: Gangland killers face terrorist-style trials

GANGLAND bosses could face trial in terrorist-style courts, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern yesterday told the Dáil.

Responding to opposition charges he had “surrendered” to gun law, Mr Ahern indicated tough new sanctions were on the way.

The Taoiseach cited the Special Criminal Court in which members of paramilitary groups were tried on the evidence of senior gardaí during the Troubles in 1972 as a possible model.
