IT WAS one of Fianna Fáil’s best ever fundraising nights when former taoiseach Albert Reynolds was guest of honour at a private dinner attended by top Cork businessmen, the Mahon Tribunal heard yesterday.

But no FF party documents exist to show who donated substantial sums of money — an average of £5,000 a head — that swelled party coffers by £50,000.

In addition to the cheques was a cash sum of £4,000, donated at the dinner in accountant Niall Welch’s Glanmire home on March 11, 1994. Who gave the cash remains a mystery.
