Woman threatened with jail for harassing man
Elaine Tyrell, aged 47, was ordered by Judge Michael White at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court last November not to contact the man when he suspended her 18-month sentence.
However, Tyrell was back before Judge White on July 2 last when he was told she had since sent two further letters and two emails to the man in breach of his November 2006 order.
Tyrell, of Captains Road, Crumlin, pleaded guilty in May 2006 to harassing the victim between January 1 and September 10, 2004.
She has previous Dublin District Court convictions for harassing the same victim who has known her for 20 years and had to move home at one time to get away from her.
Tyrell was jailed for three months by the District Court in February 2003 for harassing the man and was given the Probation Act in January 2005 for the same offence.
Judge White said Tyrell suffered from a mental illness and was a law abiding citizen when that illness was brought under control.
He ordered her not to make any contact of any kind with the victim, obey all the instructions of her medical advisers and take her prescribed medication. He suspended her sentence on condition she abide by medical recommendations and remain under the supervision of the Probation Service.
Detective Garda Tomas Gormley told prosecuting counsel Kerida Naidoo BL in May 2006 that her “romantic desires” towards the victim were not reciprocated. She had said to gardaí that all would be well if the victim telephoned her.
She made constant calls to his home and place of work, giving a false name.
The victim had instructed his personal assistant about her and gardaí had advised the victim to log her “vast number of calls”.
