A PROMISE has been broken to vaccinate all newborn babies in Cork against TB from October, because of the Health Service Executive’s (HSE) ban on staff recruitment.

Yesterday, a spokesperson for the HSE confirmed the process of recruiting staff to administer the vaccine had ground to a halt.

This is contrary to repeated assurances by the HSE earlier this year that the vaccine — known as the BCG — would be given routinely to newborns in Cork from October.
