Girl, 6, dies after strike from golf club
The little girl, her eight-year-old sister and her six-year-old cousin were among a group of children out playing golf on a green in the Carrigrua area of Nenagh on Sunday morning.
They were playing close to the house where their families were enjoying a get-together to celebrate their grandfather’s birthday.
At approximately 11am while they were playing, the little boy swung a putter to hit the ball but accidentally struck the little girl.
Family members immediately rang the emergency services and they were on the scene quickly, applying first aid before rushing the little girl to Nenagh Hospital.
Later on Sunday evening she was transferred to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where she remained in critical condition.
Her family maintained a round-the-clock vigil at her bedside but last night she died.
A Garda spokesman said the incident was one of those tragic accidents adding that both families were grief stricken by what had happened.
