UP to 30 recently qualified nurses and four consultants at Sligo General Hospital were told yesterday their contracts will not be renewed at the end of the month due to the staffing freeze signalled by the Health Service Executive (HSE) earlier this month.

The 30 nurses, who cost €84,000 each to train, were the only new graduates in the country who were not given six-month hospital contracts following graduation in June.

Instead, they were given contracts via a recruitment agency.
