Ahern’s ‘promises’ at odds with Mahon delay

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern’s delay in explaining to the Mahon Tribunal the exact nature of certain lodgments is at odds with promises he has given in the past to co-operate fully with such inquiries.

Mr Ahern returns to the tribunal to give evidence today, following his two days in the witness box last week.

It emerged during those two days of evidence that Mr Ahern had taken two and a half years to tell the tribunal that certain lodgments under investigation by the inquiry had involved sterling.
