SYSTEMS for dealing with under-performing teachers have been delayed following talks between unions and the Department of Education.

Under the Towards 2016 social partnership deal agreed in June last year, procedures were to be put in place by this month.

The 1998 Education Act currently allows a school board to suspend or dismiss teachers but the procedures for this were to be reviewed in talks between the three main teacher unions, department officials and bodies representing school managers.
