A FORENSIC examination of an unmarked Garda car which came under fire in Southill on Sunday night confirmed it was hit by one bullet.

Two armed detectives had been patrolling in the Southill area when a sniper opened fire from a concealed position. At least four rounds were fired at the gardaí, and a bullet hit the front bumper of the car.

Both detectives took part in a major follow-up search of the area after the incident, and a man, 37, was arrested under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
