MORE than €50 million in grants is available for parents struggling to meet back-to-school costs.

Education Minister Mary Hanafin announced a €14m scheme to provide text books for 250,000 students from low-income families.

The initiative is in addition to the €38m back-to-school clothing and footwear allowance from the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
