CIT boss becomes president after title change approval

Formerly known as the director of the college, Dr Brendan Murphy’s title is to be upgraded to president of CIT.

The request for the change in title was sought by the governing body of CIT and approved by Education Minister Mary Hanafin.

President Dr Murphy welcomed this change of title. “I think that the sanctioning of the title of president is a very significant honour,” he said.

“The title is an internationally recognised one which reflects the importance of CIT”

Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin also welcomed Dr Murphy’s new title. “The awarding of the title of president acknowledges the continuing growth and development of CIT,” he said.

“CIT’s contribution to the future of Cork and the country as a whole, cannot be underestimated. The awarding of the title is appropriate to CIT’s status.”
