IRISH children’s internet use begins with the search for information relating to school work, but moves to entertainment and social networking sites as they become teenagers, new research has found.

The study of internet use among children across Europe shows that children aged nine and 10 are more likely to search for information related to schoolwork, commonly using websites such as wikipedia.com.

However, those in the 12 to 14-year-old age category were more likely to go online for non-educational purposes.
