Corkman to return home for honour
Drimoleague-born Larry Sullivan has saved millions of Americans thousands of dollars on energy costs.
As president and chief executive officer of Conserve Electric, based in New York, he sells cheap electricity and electrical wholesale products.
He is celebrating 25 years in business this year and he will be honoured by New York’s County Cork Association at its 17th annual banquet in Cork this weekend.
He will also visit Lord Mayor Donal Counihan at City Hall on Friday.
Mr Sullivan is the epitome of the Irish emigrant success story, a spokesperson for the County Cork Association said.
Born in Clashduve in Drimoleague, he left for New York in the 1960s.
He met his Galway-born wife, Maureen, at a dance in Manhattan and they have three sons.
In 1979, he opened Conserve Electric in Long Island City, which has evolved into a multi-million-dollar operation.
He will be honoured on Saturday alongside Frank Healy, the chief executive officer and managing director of Ducon Concrete in Kanturk, one of Cork’s top 20 companies.
Mr Healy is past chairman of the Independent Concrete Manufacturers’ Association and of the Irish Precast Association and is also a founding member of the Irish Concrete Federation.
A North Cork GAA stalwart over the years, he is life president of bothKanturk and Duhallow GAA.
The County Cork Association was founded in New York in the mid-1800s to help Cork-born emigrants arriving in America.
Members have held top positions in labour, business and government in the city.
