Meeting to tackle thugs set for September

A CRISIS meeting to tackle antisocial behaviour in Cork city will take place in September.

Meeting to tackle thugs set for September

City manager Joe Gavin confirmed last night that arrangements for the multi-agency meeting are being finalised.

The meeting will involve key city officials, senior gardaí, representatives of the Health Service Executive and other voluntary and statutory bodies.

Cllr Annette Spillane was among several councillors who raised fears earlier this year that antisocial behaviour in some parts of the city was spiralling out of control, prompting the call for this meeting.

Inter-family violence in some areas had reached crisis point and was forcing law-abiding families to leave their homes, she said.

Mr Gavin confirmed that the meeting will take place in September. However a date has not been finalised. Ms Spillane welcomed the move.

She was backed at the time by the then Lord Mayor, Councillor Michael Ahern.
