Noisy court annoys judge

A District Court judge threatened to abandon a sitting of Portumna District Court yesterday because of a noisy courtroom.

Judge Michael Reilly displayed his disapproval at the situation on a number of occasions, and at one stage threatened to abandon the court altogether.

The court takes place in the town hall and the movement of people and the clanking of chairs on the hardwood floor irked Judge Reilly.

“I’ll have to consider holding court here anymore. It’s turning into a bazaar when people can be wandering around,” Judge Reilly said.

“I can’t deal with what is happening and I’m considering abandoning this court. It’s hard enough to hear what is going on without people wandering around,” he said.
