Tributes to ‘one of finest lawyers of generation’

ONE of the “finest lawyers of his generation” was among tributes made yesterday at Cork District Court to solicitor Gerrard McCarthy, who died unexpectedly on Tuesday last week.

Mr McCarthy was a practitioner in Cork for more than 30 years. Members of the judiciary, the solicitors’ profession, the bar, as well as the gardaí, spoke of a remarkable colleague and friend.

Flanked by judges Con O’Leary and David O’Riordan, District Judge Uinseann McGruairc, on behalf of the judiciary, told a packed courtroom of the sadness of the occasion and described Mr McCarthy as the ultimate professional.
