€117m PPARS to be replaced by new pay system

THE crisis-ridden PPARS payroll system for the health service that cost taxpayers €177 million is to be replaced with a new one.

The national roll-out of the beleaguered PPARS system, originally costed at €8.8 million, was suspended by the chief executive of the Health Service Executive Professor Brendan Drumm, shortly after his appointment two years ago.

The HSE has now announced that a new, more comprehensive system is needed because PPARS was designed when the health service was divided into health boards.
