FINE Gael has questioned whether the Government will deliver on its pre-election pledge to cut taxes now that the Exchequer is in deficit.

Figures released by the Department of Finance on Tuesday showed the financial outlook had changed from an Exchequer surplus of €880 million this time last year to a deficit of €1.4 billion now.

Yesterday in the Dáil, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny challenged Tánaiste and Finance Minister Brian Cowen to admit that tax cuts would now be off the table.
