Ahern attacked FG’s new junior ministries

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern’s decision to increase the number of junior ministers from 17 to 20 clearly contradicts the strong views he expressed 12 years ago when the new Rainbow was formed.

Mr Ahern was scathing of the decision of the John Bruton-led coalition of Fine Gael, Labour and Democratic Left to increase the number of junior ministers from 15 to 17.

The increase required an amendment to the Ministers and Secretaries Bill and this was debated in the Dáil in January 1995
