Government praised for ‘strong action’ on trafficking

THE US State Department has said Ireland is only a “potential destination for women and girls trafficked transnationally” and the Government is making strong efforts to combat the problem — despite highlighting two major cases where trafficking actually occurred last year.

This comes despite claims that more than 100 people have been trafficked into Ireland for sexual exploitation and forced labour.

The US government report examined trafficking across the world and found that in the last year Zambian girls were trafficked to Ireland for sexual exploitation and that men and women from Latvia were trafficked to Ireland for the purpose of forced labour.
