COUPLES wanting to start a family are being asked to pay up to €45,000 to adopt children from abroad.

The large sum is being paid mainly to adoption mediators.

Ireland’s Adoption Board has set up a mediation office for adoptions in Vietnam to help reduce costs for eager parents, among other reasons.
