CONSUMER champion Eddie Hobbs last night said Ireland’s inflation woes were a serious economic problem in need of urgent Government attention.

Inflation last month dropped from 5.1% to 5% but the rate remains stubbornly high with consumers shouldering steep rises in fuel bills, health and education fees and housing costs.

Hobbs last night squarely put the blame for Ireland’s inflation woes on the public sector where he said price rises were outstripping those from the private sector.
