Fun and frolics planned for Clonmel

THE world’s fastest dancer, theatre premieres, comedians and music sessions will form part of a nine-day festival planned for Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

The Junction 07 festival, which kicks off on July 7 and runs until July 15, will have a theme of ‘Motion and Migration’ and will include plays about exploitation of immigrants as well as emigration from oppression.

On the music front, acts include London sensation Elena, chart-topping Delorentos, the Baka tribal bands Baka Beyond and Baka Gibne, plus Cuban rhythms from Havana Son.

Other highlights include an opening performance from Jack L, legends The Dubliners, and the inspirational Mary Black.

The organisers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Guinness Book of Records’ world’s fastest dancer, James Devine, and the Irish premiere of TAPEIRE – exhilarating Celtic passion fusing breathtaking tap with the sounds of jazz, hip-hop, funk and Celtic rhythms.

There will be a number of Irish theatre premieres during the festival.

The Farm in the Cave theatre company will present their acclaimed multi-award winning production ‘Sclavi / The Songs of the Immigrants’.

Deirdre O’Kane, regarded as one of the country’s top comics is sure to have fans laughing in the aisles. The line-up also includes New York political drag artist Taylor Mac and the fifty-minute comedy ‘Melody’, written by Deirdre Kinahan.

Children will have plenty to keep them entertained with mural painting, balloons, face-painting and street theatre by Ramshaklicious.

Meanwhile, MonkeyShine will bring their play ‘Grimm Jam’ which features a deliciously wicked cocktail of sweet and slimy stories to amuse all.
