THE introduction of mobile phone jamming technology into Irish prisons has been delayed after hi-tech cabling went missing.

The sophisticated blocking equipment was supposed to go live by the end of last month, but has now been deferred for a few weeks.

The Midlands Prison — which houses members one of the most-feared criminal gangs in the country — was chosen as the first prison to be tested with the device.
