Bandon festival keeps it free and fun for young and old

THOUSANDS of revellers are set to enjoy a free music festival in Bandon, Co Cork, this weekend which will feature headline acts like Duke Special, Director and Mary Black.

The annual festival, which was founded in 1996, will also promote a lot of home-grown talent, including Jennifer Lomasney.

Festival director Carmel Nyhan said the mix of established artistes such as Mary Black with new, up and coming talent likeDirector will appeal to a cross-section of festival fans.

Director and Duke Special will perform live outdoors on Saturday, while the following day Mary Black will headline the outdoor concert, supported by Jennifer Lomasney.

As well as outdoor concerts, a Music Trail will take place each night of the festival in most pubs and will combine a mixture of traditional and trad/rock sessions.

The festival, sponsored by local companies, Fáilte Ireland and Cork-Kerry Tourism, will also include street entertainment and live music at the Farmers’ Market.

In previous years, such major acts as The Waterboys, Mundy and Aslan have drawn huge crowds to the town.
