Political parties told to get rid of posters

TDs and political parties are being warned to take down their posters and banners by midnight tomorrow or face substantial fines.

Many onlookers have become accustomed to the cheesy smiles strapped to lampposts around the country over the past month and most will be pleased to see them go.

Indeed, only hours after counting ended last Thursday, party workers were seen scampering around tearing down election material.
