THERE was uncertainty yesterday as to whether alleged IRA boss Thomas “Slab” Murphy is engaged in tax negotiations with the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) through a third party.

The former chief of staff of the Provisional IRA was hit with a €5 million-plus tax bill by the CAB last year.

The tax demand was compiled in conjunction with a massive cross-border operation into his alleged involvement in a multi-million euro organised crime racket.
