Initiative to fight vandalism of buses
The Bus Éireann Limerick Community Support Programme, which commenced in January 2006, is a dedicated annual initiative designed to assist voluntary groups making a positive contribution to the community.
Bus Éireann chief executive Tim Hayes said: “The tremendous response to the 2006 Bus Éireann Community Support Programme demonstrates that community spirit is thriving in Limerick. It has also demonstrates just how many voluntary groups are out there and the invaluable work that they do.
“These groups are made up of ordinary people giving up their spare time to help others and improve the community.
“Often voluntary groups are poorly funded and have little in the way of resources so I am delighted, that through this programme, Bus Éireann can do its bit to give them a helping hand.”
Last year, 158 groups such as sports clubs, musical societies, residents associations and disability groups applied to be considered for an award. Cash prizes were made to 38 winning entrants.
Applications are welcome from all groups working in the following five categories: children, young people and education; people with a disability; music, sport and the arts; aging and older people; environment and local community.
