Boots can’t keep up with demand for ‘miracle’ cream
Queues formed outside Boots chemist on St Stephen’s Green in Dublin as women clamoured to get their hands on Protect and Perfect anti-wrinkle serum.
In Britain, four of the High Street chemist’s flagship stores opened at 7am to cater for the expected demand for the new beauty serum.
The reputation of the wonder cream received a major boost when it was featured on a BBC2 Horizon programme in March.
Research by the University of Manchester showed the product repairing photo-aged skin and improving the fine-wrinkles associated with photo-ageing.
The real surprise was that in a market where anti-wrinkle creams can cost hundreds, Perfect and Protect, priced at €23.50, is seen as a steal.
Boots on St Patrick’s Street in Cork reported that their stocks were wiped out by 10am and promised that they will be re-stocking next week.
At the St Stephen’s Green store management took down “advertising displays” mid-morning.
On the orders of senior management, sales were also rationed to one pot per person to prevent “flipping” — consumers buying extra to sell on eBay.
Protect and Perfect has been retailing for as much as £100 (€146) online.
Boots says the cream is its fastest selling product ever and its production facilities have been working “around the clock” to hit a target of 24,000 bottles a day.
They have even set up a dedicated advisory line which can keep customers up to date on availability across Britain and Ireland.
