Stars urge students to get on vote register today

MOVIE stars Cillian Murphy and Colin Farrell last night warned unregistered voters they only had a few days to ensure their voices are heard in this election.

Stars urge students to get on vote register today

Backing the Rock the Vote campaign to get as many people as possible on electoral rolls before they finally close, the actors urged students not to be apathetic in a series of videos airing on websites like Bebo, MySpace and Youtube.

Rock the Vote is urging students to add their names to the supplementary postal register by the end of the week.

Forms are on local authority websites or on rockthevote.ie. The forms need to be signed by the students’ educational institution and returned by close of business today.

Rock The Vote is also urging those who haven’t registered to vote to get their name on the supplementary register, which shuts on May 5. Rock the Vote’s Patrick Cosgrave pleaded with students not to waste their chance to be heard.

“It’s extremely important that we use our right to vote. It’s important that politicians see what young people think and that they act upon it. It’s now up to you, to get your point across. Use your voice Vote.

“Our idea is to use humour to subtlety encourage young people to get out there and use their vote. We just want them to realise that every voice counts.

“It’s been a pretty interesting experience working with the likes of Colin Farrell. He’s particularly funny and strikingly well informed,” said Mr Cosgrave.

“He was an absolute professional and gave so much of his time.”
