McDowell wants to keep trucking
The PD leader insisted he was pro-green as he launched his party’s environmental policies which he said allowed for economic growth.
“I have a ministerial Merc which is one of the oldest in the fleet and I am quite happy to keep using it.
“I could, as some others have done, replace it with a newer car, but if I did that the environmental footprint of that would be more significant as well, so I’m driving it until it goes into the ground,” he said.
Launching the PDs’ Little Green Book on environmental action, Mr McDowell said Ireland’s approach to eco-sustainability must now be as aggressive as its approach to creating employment.
He said green policies did not have to damage the economy.
