A BAGGAGE handler came close to redefining the meaning of low-cost no-frills air travel when he got trapped in the cargo hold of a New York-bound aircraft.

Only his mobile phone prevented him from heading up, up and away after colleagues gave the signal to lock the hold not realising he was still on board.

The incident took place on December 28, 2005, in Dublin airport, at 10.36am, while baggage handlers were loading up Aer Lingus Flight EI-105, bound for New York, with 325 passengers on board.
