Man gives himself up to police after family pleas

Noel Kelly, who is in his 50s, skipped bail in England eight months ago and returned to Limerick after he was charged with a number of offences alleging child sex attacks.

When his picture was shown on Crimewatch gardaí in Limerick were tipped off that he was working as a fork lift driver at a factory in Raheen.

However, when gardaí went to his apartment, he had left.

His brother Christy said yesterday none of the family had ever been in trouble.

Mr Kelly said: “My sister can’t stop crying. My father is 87 and he’s very upset.’’

Christy Kelly said he told his brother to give himself up after learning of his appearance on Crimewatch.

Noel Kelly is being held at a prison in Kent and appeared before a magistrates court at the weekend.

The alleged offences relate to his wife’s nieces and date back to the early 1990s.
