STUDENTS may be relying too much on the internet for Leaving Certificate history projects, a report on last year’s exam has found.

Students rely ‘too heavily’ on the internet

The 2006 examination was the first time students were tested in a new history syllabus and analysis of the exam itself and student performance was published yesterday by the State Examinations Commission (SEC).

One-fifth of the marks were given for a research study report (RSR), a new element of the exam which students had to submit before the end of April. The report must consist of an outline plan, an evaluation of the sources and an extended essay.
