Family of five fishermen petition to have trawler raised

FAMILY of the five fishermen lost off the Dunmore East coast in January have launched a petition in a bid to get the stricken trawler, the Pere Charles, raised.

Family of five fishermen petition to have trawler raised

While an extensive naval dive operation was carried out following the sinking of the Pere Charles on January 10, relatives of the five men on board at the time feel that the only way to conclusively establish whether or not any bodies are still in the vessel is to lift it from the sea-bed.

An independent assessment of the dive was carried out on behalf of the families of the fishermen — Tom Hennessy, Pat Hennessy, Billy O’Connor, Pat Coady and Andriy Dyrin. This found that the tapes of the navy dive were “inconclusive” and that the search of the Pere Charles was “incomplete,” while praising the work of the divers involved.
